Hi, my name is Nick Gumas.   For those who don’t know, I am in the final step to becoming an Eagle Scout. For my final project I have chosen to help an organization I have been volunteering for since I was 7 years old – the Jr. Giants (more info on Jr. Giants below).  I am collecting donations for baseball equipment and I would like to ask for your help.  Here’s what your donation will buy:

  • $11 – batting helmet
  • $12 – baseball glove
  • $20 – bat or a dozen baseballs
  • $44 – a year membership for one kid

Any amount will help kids all over California play ball and help me reach my goal of $2,000!  Just mail a check payable to the Jr. Giants to me at 2600 Summit Drive, Burlingame, CA 94010.  Please include your name and address, this is a tax-deductible donation and you will receive a receipt in return. Even if you can’t help me with a donation you can help me complete my project by passing this email on to others. Thank you for supporting Boy Scouts and the Jr. Giants.

Sincerely,
Nick Gumas

Who are the Junior Giants?
Junior Giants, the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, is a free, non-competitive and innovative baseball program for boys and girls ages 5-18 years old. In 1994, the Fund sought a program that would give at-risk kids a meaningful partnership with community-based organizations and provide an alternative to drugs, gangs and crime. The Junior Giants Program was therefore established and now serves 15,000 children in 80 leagues across California and into Nevada and Oregon. The Community Fund provides all of the uniforms, equipment, and training necessary to run a league as well as tickets to select Giants games so the youth can experience a Major League Baseball game. But more important than the fundamentals of baseball, Junior Giants focuses on the four bases of character development: Confidence, Integrity, Leadership and Teamwork. This framework is integrated into the Junior Giants handbook distributed to all of the kids and parents. WHAT MAKES JUNIOR GIANTS BASEBALL UNIQUE?:
• It is FREE!
• It is a NON-COMPETITVE league that welcomes players of all skill levels
• It is a CO-ED league
• Pitching machines are used
• Professional training by the Giants is provided to the coaches.
